Talk about getting in right under the wire! It's the 30th of June, so this totally counts as my personal note for the month lol.
Lately, I've found it challenging and really, really awkward to keep up my lighthearted schtick on here. With all the global heaviness -- a pandemic that continues to rage in North America, economic damage the likes of which I can't compute, a revolution against centuries of systemic racism and deeply ingrained prejudice -- there were many moments when it didn't feel right (or necessary) to write about nail polish and rosé.
Don't get me wrong: Easy fun absolutely has a place in the world. (You know where I stand on the importance of small things that bring you exponential joy!) My brain just... I don't know... pushed those thoughts way back for a minute. And that's okay! I think my head was making room for new ideas and perspective.
Anyway. For me, the last month was largely marked by:
Backyard gardening (meaning: constantly calling my mom for advice) and sudoku...
...Reading, watching, bookmarking any solid information I find about internalized racism, white supremacy, and how to dismantle a disgusting system that uplifts a self-anointed privileged majority (at the direct expense of everyone else who was forced into social disadvantage)...
...So much ice cream and so many iced coffees...
...Waves of pandemic-induced anxiety, triggered by terrifying stats coming out of the US, shady changes in protocol from the Quebec government, and local parks that are teeming with bodies of all ages...
...Offsetting that anxiety with hilarious TV shows and CBD oil...
...Worrying about not having a job, worrying even harder about going back to work and spending hours in a shared office space with no fresh air...
...Turning thirty-three years old (still haven't decided how I feel about it lol).
Long story short: There have been highs and lows :)
Here's to stepping into the next month with renewed confidence, stronger compassion for others, and stretch-waist jeans to make room for all the affogatos to come.
Be good,
Stef
