Cleaning the house sucks.
Often, the task gets left for the weekend because it doesn't fit into your busy workweek. Can you think of a bigger drag than spending Saturday doing laundry, reorganizing cupboards, and deep-scrubbing the tub? I can't. At the same time, hanging out in a messy apartment drives me bonkers. It's a very annoying cycle.
I finally found a super effective system that barely feels like cleaning at all.
Take two minutes (literally) and tidy whatever you can during that window. I mean it: Set a timer, then let yourself off the hook after 120 seconds and go about the rest of your day.
It's all about breaking down your space into manageable chunks and going at them in a gradual way (as opposed to tackling everything in one long shot). You'll be surprised by how much actually gets done!
Since I started working this way, I realized you can clean almost anything in under two minutes. Personally, in that small time frame, I'm able to unload/reload the dishwasher... Or straighten up all the shoes and coats in the entrance... Or swiffer the floor in every room... Fold the laundry (maybe even put it back in the closet!)... Wipe down the stovetop and kitchen counters... You get the idea.
These spurts of tidying don't feel daunting. Instead, I find myself more inclined to clean throughout the week because I'm never committing to tons of housework.
I'll admit that it's impossible to avoid the occasional, necessary deep clean. You just do it a lot less often, which is awesome.
The two-minute tidy means multiple clean-up sessions throughout the week -- that sounds like a lot. But the pay-off is huge! My place is now consistently in decent-enough shape that most people (except my mom lol) can drop by unannounced and I wouldn't be completely ashamed.
And what's two minutes, really? Most Beyoncé songs are longer ;)
